Tony Harper

Tony Harper is a senior leader and advisor with over 38 years’ experience in automotive product development and large-scale private and public Research & Development programmes.

In 2025, Tony set up his own consultancy business advising start-ups, large businesses, research & technology organisations and regional technology clusters. All with the common theme of generating growth and prosperity from the transition to a more sustainable future.

For over 6 years prior to that, Tony was the Director of the Faraday Battery Challenge, the UK Government’s £610m investment in research, innovation and scale-up infrastructure for battery technology. Arguably the UK’s largest single-technology integrated R&I intervention programme, Tony was responsible for delivery from concept to operational reality.

Tony spent most of his career, however, engineering cars and developing new technology for cars at Jaguar Land Rover, most notably as the Director of Engineering Research.

Tony is a Graduate of Imperial College London, a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the IMechE and a Fellow of The Royal Academy of Engineering.
