Dr Colin Herron CBE has worked in the automotive industry or associated with the industry for 53 years including 16 years in Engineering at Nissan. During 2009/11 played a significant role in the decision of Nissan to locate its LEAF and battery production in the UK. Worked in Industry, Public Sector, Further Education and Higher Education. The culmination of this activity was an appointment as a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for services to business and renewable energy.
Not a traditional academic but a person who has combined industrial experience with the public sector. Research area outside of developing a battery manufacturing ecosystem is the roll out of EV charging infrastructure, and the variables associated with it.
Oral evidence to the House of Commons Transport Committee on Motoring of the Future and in 2021 gave written and Oral evidence to the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee on the role of batteries and fuel cells to achieve net zero.
Awarded the Faraday Institution first ever Lifetime Achievement award (2025) and the Battery Britain Lifetime Achievement award (2025). Visiting Professor at Newcastle University.
Now retired and currently assisting companies or individuals on a voluntary basis.
