NPL opens Mechanical Test Facility to support transition to a net-zero economy

NPL’s new Mechanical Test Facility enables the early uptake of new materials that supports industrial innovation and aligns with the government’s green recovery programme, boosting jobs, generating economic impact and developing new skills.
NPL has opened its state-of-the-art multi-million-pound Mechanical Test Facility (MTF) which is equipped with a comprehensive suite of the latest Instron mechanical test machines, as part of a valued partnership.
NPL has a wide range of world class materials expertise in the fields of advanced composites, metals, ceramics, additive manufacturing and coatings. In conjunction with these capabilities, the facility will serve as a UK centre of excellence for research and commercial services. Providing materials assurance to UK industry, enabling the early uptake of new materials allowing quicker product development and innovation, and supporting industry’s diversification into stronger, lightweight and therefore ‘greener’ alternatives which are more economic and energy efficient. To mark its opening, NPL is hosting a launch webinar at 15.00 GMT on 16th February 2021.
